We are pleased to send out the premium and entry forms for the New York Spring Specialty Show, May 23-25, 2014 in Freeville NY. This year we will have better weather – I promise!
We will have an agility competition on Saturday morning, Standard and the game Jumpers. If your dog is a puppy (less than 15 months old) or new to agility, please enter in Level 1. If your dog has an agility title from ILWC or another organization, you may enter Level 2 or 3. The club is sponsoring a special event on Saturday – heart screening for all dogs at the show at the very special price of only $10 per dog (the club is subsidizing the balance of $25 per dog). You are strongly urged to take advantage of this opportunity to have your dogs screened for heart problems by Dr. N. Sydney Moise of the Cardiology Dept. at Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine. Because of the heart screenings, we will not have a Rally competition this year.
During the Saturday lunch break, Mary Cummings will present a seminar on grooming techniques for our breed. We certainly want them to look their best for the conformation ring. The conformation judge is Darryl Hurst of Munnsville NY. He raises Dachshunds, is past president of the Empire State Dog Club (UKC) and is a hound judge for UKC. Last year, he judged the Silken Windhound specialty. In the evening, an expert from Cornell University will present a seminar on genetics and dog behavior. Be sure to bring some extra money: the fantastic silent auction will have wonderful goodies to tempt you. And the money raised will go toward the health and rescue funds.
Roll call for the straight racing meet is Sunday at 9 am. We will have qualifying runs on Friday afternoon for those dogs who need to qualify to race in the meet on Sunday. We will also have puppy runs, individual runs, and fun runs on Friday afternoon, between programs on Sunday and at the conclusion of the meet. We want to make sure all dogs who want to race have the opportunity to do so.
The facility is available for set up on Friday at 2 pm. If you arrive earlier, your help will be welcome in setting up the racing field, the indoor conformation rings, the agility field, etc. And there will be a meet and greet pizza party around 6 pm.
